Big Duck Bonanza is the rarest thing in this niche: a duck slot that is officially low volatility. Pragmatic Play built it on the Big Bass Bonanza chassis — money symbols, a collecting wild, retriggers every fourth wild — then set the RTP at 96.71%, capped it at 2,100x, and put a 2,000x duck in the money pool for the one round in a thousand that wants to be remembered. It has been live since 28 May 2026, and like its bigger brother Big Duck Splash 1000 it is a Stake exclusive.

This is the duck slot for people who like to spin for an hour and still have a balance. It will not make anyone rich; it will not make anyone furious either. Read on for the numbers, the one copy-paste blunder in the rules, and where the 2,000x duck actually hides.

Base game: the same lake, a calmer current

The layout is identical to Big Duck Splash 1000 — ten lines, a beagle premium, the hat, binoculars, permit, duck family and wooden royals — but the paytable is tuned down a notch. At a $2 bet five puppies pay $400 (200x), five hats $200, five binoculars or permits $100, five ducks $40, and any five royals $20. Two puppies pay $1. Three-of-a-kind hits on the royals return half a bet, which is the low-volatility signature: lots of small returns that keep the balance line flat.

The ducks carry money values on every spin, from 2x to 50x most of the time and 2,000x on the rare golden occasion. As in every game of this family, those values sit there uncollected until the hunter arrives in the bonus. There is no respin or hook trick in the base game here — that belongs to the Splash version — so the base game is honest, plain reel-spinning while you wait for three scopes.

Free spins: collect, retrigger, multiply

Three, four or five scatters give 10, 15 or 20 free spins. The hunter is the wild and appears only in the feature; every hunter that lands collects all money values on the screen, and the game keeps a running count of hunters at the top of the reels. Every fourth hunter retriggers the round with ten more spins and raises the collection multiplier: 2x after the first retrigger, 3x after the second, 10x after the third. That is the end of the ladder — three retriggers, then the feature plays out.

Two quiet helpers keep rounds alive. When only one hunter is on the screen at the end of a spin, extra money symbols can be dropped in at random. And the feature runs on “special reels”, which in practice means ducks and hunters are denser than in the base game. Combine 10x collection with a 2,000x duck and you have exceeded the 2,100x cap — so the top duck is really a “cap trigger” rather than a prize you multiply.

The bonus buy: 100x, no super option

There is exactly one buy: 100x your bet, $200 at a $2 stake, for a round triggered by three, four or five scatters chosen at random. The RTP with the buy is 96.71%, identical to the base game, which makes this one of the few Pragmatic titles where buying is not a hidden tax. What you do not get is the Splash version’s 450x Super Free Spins or its modifier wheel; Bonanza is the simpler machine and the buy reflects that.

One buy, one price: 100x the bet.

RTP 96.71% and low volatility — the real selling point

96.71% is the highest default RTP of any Pragmatic Play duck and comfortably above the studio’s usual 96.5% line. Because the buy carries the same figure, there is no math penalty for skipping the base game entirely. We could not test alternative RTP builds, since the game exists in a single lobby.

The volatility deserves a paragraph because the labels disagree. The splash screen and the rules page both say Low Volatility. Stake’s game card says “High”. The rules are the authority, and the paytable backs them up: a 200x top line prize, a 2,100x ceiling and royals paying half a bet for three are low-volatility numbers. Expect frequent small hits, bonuses that usually return somewhere between a handful of bets and a few dozen, and a genuinely rare 2,000x duck.

The fish in the rules

Open the money-symbol page of the rules and you will read that “the fish paying symbols are also MONEY symbols”. There are no fish in this game. Pragmatic ported the Big Bass Bonanza rules text and missed a line — harmless, mildly funny, and a useful reminder of exactly which game you are playing with a duck skin on. The mechanics are Big Bass Bonanza’s to the decimal: same money values (bar the 2,000x top), same fourth-wild retrigger, same 2x/3x/10x ladder, same 2,100x cap.

Playing it

Our session (screenshots on this page) went the way the label promises: a natural three-scatter trigger at a $5 bet, ten free spins, a couple of small collections, and a “Big Win” screen for $80 — 16x the bet — on the last spin. That is a representative low-volatility bonus: pleasant, not life-changing. The hunter-and-beagle animations are the same assets as Splash 1000, the duck swarm that explodes across the screen between features is the best visual in either game, and the whole thing runs smoothly on turbo.

Pros and cons

Pros Cons
96.71% RTP, unchanged with the buy 2,100x cap — the 2,000x duck is effectively a cap trigger
Genuinely low volatility: long sessions on a small balance Base game has no respin or hook tricks — pure waiting
Clean 100x buy with three-to-five scatters Stake exclusive — no other lobby, no other demo
Free demo in Fun Play mode Stake’s card mislabels the volatility; rules text still mentions “fish”

Similar duck slots

If you want the same lake with real swings, Big Duck Splash 1000 raises the cap to 12,500x and adds a modifier wheel and a 450x Super buy. Among ducks that are not locked to one casino, Rubber Duck Hold’n’Link is the closest low-to-medium variance cousin, and Lucky Ducky gives you a 97.25% RTP if the return is what you are optimising for.

FAQ

What is the RTP of Big Duck Bonanza?
96.71%, and the same 96.71% when you buy the free spins, according to the in-game rules.

Is Big Duck Bonanza high or low volatility?
Low. The splash screen and the rules page both say so; Stake’s game card lists “high”, which contradicts the game itself.

What is the max win?
2,100x the total bet. The round stops immediately when that figure is reached.

Where can I play it?
Only at Stake, in Fun Play or Real Play — it is a Stake exclusive.

How much does the bonus buy cost?
100x the bet, for example $200 at a $2 stake. The number of triggering scatters (three, four or five) is random.

Verdict: 7.6/10

A tidy, honest low-volatility duck with the best default RTP in the Pragmatic flock and a buy that costs nothing in return-to-player terms. The ceiling is modest and the exclusivity is a real drawback, but as a session slot for a small bankroll — or for grinding Stake’s races without bleeding — it does its job. Bigger ambitions belong with Big Duck Splash 1000 or the top of our best duck slots list.
